Andrew Selee - Vanishing Frontiers: The Forces Driving Mexico and the United States Together

Upcoming Event
Sunday, June 24, 2018 - 1:00pm to 2:00pm

Selee’s deeply reported book about the last quarter-century of Mexico-U.S. relations counters the myths of Mexico as a place overrun with drug lords and violence to show us a country that has more in common with the U.S. than ever before. Some 40% of the manufactured goods that cross the border have been assembled by joint Mexican and American firms, for instance, and more than a tenth of Americans trace their heritage to Mexico. Selee, president of the Migration Policy Institute, lived in a Tijuana shantytown in the 1990s and he draws on his first-hand experience with changes there as well as on the broader forces of trade, culture, and immigration to trace the larger transformation in Mexico’s relationship with the U.S.
