Barbara K. Lipska - The Neuroscientist Who Lost Her Mind: My Tale of Madness and Recovery

Upcoming Event
Monday, April 16, 2018 - 7:00pm to 8:00pm

Lipska’s book is part report on cutting-edge brain science and part extraordinary account of what it’s like to lose your mind. Lipska, director of the Human Brain Collection Core at the National Institute of Mental Health, is an internationally recognized expert in mental illness and brain development. It was grimly ironic that she was diagnosed with a melanoma that leeched into her brain and caused her to exhibit symptoms like those of dementia and schizophrenia. Treated with immunotherapy, she miraculously recovered. Memories intact, Lipska gives a powerful description of her mental and physical ordeal, using her experience to explain how brain injuries, mental illness, and normal aging can change cognition, behavior, and personality.
