This courtroom drama is set in the very unlikely community of parents of children with disabilities.  The plot centers around a fringe therapy for autism and other conditions called hyperbaric oxygenation (HBOT).  HBOT  is dangerous and experimental so a deadly accident occurs, but how?   The story is revealed through the participants’ heartbreaking testimonies and confessions.  It is clear that Kim knows a lot about the worlds both of autism and lawyers as well as the immigrant experience having moved to Baltimore from South Korea as a preteen.  An excellent who dunit.

Maybe You Should Talk to Someone: A Therapist, Her Therapist, and Our Lives Revealed by Lori Gottlieb is a unique memoir that examines the world of psychotherapy from both sides of the couch. It follows four of Lori’s patients and their healing journeys from overcoming bad habits and grief, as well as from dealing a terminal diagnosis and being unwilling to change. Lori also writes about the relationship she forges with a therapist who she goes to after a bad break up. This book is sometimes light and sometimes heavy but always entertaining. The perfect summer read.

From humble beginnings, Chef Kwame Onwuachi rose to be one of the most anticipated restauranteurs before he was 30. Notes from a Young Black Chef: A Memoir is so much more than a rags to riches story. Crediting “years of boot strapping hustle and sheer luck” Kwame changes the trajectory of his life. I would give him more credit, talent and determination than he gives himself. From Nigeria to Louisiana to oil cleanup ships in the Gulf to some of the best fine dining restaurants in NY, you don’t have to be a foodie to love this book!
