The 2017 contest drew more than 5,000 entries from 49 US states and the District of Columbia, 7 Canadian provinces, 7 Australian territories, and 29 other countries around the world - Winning books represent 43 US states and DC, all 7 of the Canadian provinces, 6 of the Australian territories, and 15 other countries Beautifully produced, Desmond Freeman - Venice presents more than 50 captioned, black and white and full-color sketches of the architecture of Venice accompanied by quotations from well-known authors, poets and artists. The preface describes the story of how the book came into being, and was developed in addition to information about the artwork methodology. A set of thumbnail illustrations of each of the 50 or so full artworks has been included at the back of the book in the form of an index. This limited deluxe edition is presented in a slipcase upholstered with printed linen. Each copy is numbered, has been signed by the artist, and is accompanied by a signed and numbered limited edition print from the Desmond Freeman - Venice collection. This edition is limited to 200 copies.
Desmond Freeman studied art and design at the National Art School, Sydney and later attained a Master of Arts degree from the prestigious Royal College of Art, London. Whilst working as a designer in London, Sydney, Singapore, Hong Kong and Dubai he earned a reputation as a leading interior and museum designer never abandoning his passion for painting and drawing. Desmond's career includes academic appointments as Professor of Design and Head of the Design School at the University of Technology, Sydney and President of the Design Institute of Australia. He is currently a member of the Academic Board of the Virtu Design Institute and chairs its Scholarly Activity and Research Committee. Desmond lives with his wife, Christine in Bowral in the Southern Highlands of New South Wales, Australia and devotes his time to his artwork and community activities.
