Suzuki Roshi writes, “In the beginner’s mind there are many possibilities, but in the expert’s mind there are few.” Join in a glide, often a dive, into a plethora of Zen Buddhist practices and teachings - sitting meditation, art, writing, koan study, and walking - a virtual playground set designed for beginners and more seasoned veterans alike.  Works by lifelong Zen practitioners and teachers, Natalie Goldberg’s The True Secret of Writing and John Tarrant’s Bring Me the Rhinoceros and Other Zen Koans That Will Save Your Life, will serve as ordinary, sometimes extraordinary, conveyors on a path for anyone who wants to transform challenging states into experiences of growth. These practices incite one to extend into both a wider spiritual and secular view. Four Mondays: June 21, 28, July 5, 12 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. EST Online Class.

Reading Schedule:

Classes One and Two: The True Secret of Writing: Connecting Life with Language by Natalie Goldberg.  From the beginning writer to the published professional, Goldberg, a Zen Buddhist practitioner and author of the breakthrough classic Writing Down the Bones, offers a panoply of writing practices and meditational techniques that she has engaged with over the years.

Classes Three and Four: Bring Me the Rhinoceros and Other Zen Koans That Will Save Your Life by John Tarrant.  Tarrant takes one beyond Zen mystique to explain how koans work with our everyday trials, tribulations, and joys.  He takes koan study away frm didactic analytical study into an everyday life experiment.
