Two Wednesdays: June 16 and June 23 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

$80.00 (10% off for members)

In the first session, we’ll take a look at Lahiri’s life and her breadth of work and go over biographical information. Mostly, we’ll discuss two of Lahiri’s most lauded short stories: “Interpreter of Maladies” and “A Temporary Matter.” We’ll examine the elements of plot, characterization, shared themes, and do a close reading as a group of at least one scene in each story.

For the second class, we’ll discuss Whereabouts, Lahiri’s first new novel in nearly a decade. Written in Italian and translated into English by the author, the story follows a woman, who is a university professor, in the middle of crisis of conscience. The reader will find the qualities that make Lahiri’s work so beloved: deep intelligence and feeling, richly textured physical and emotional landscapes, and a poetics of dislocation. Two Wednesdays: June 16 and June 23 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. EST Online Class.
