Brian Allen Carr - Opioid, Indiana — at Politics and Prose at Union Market

Upcoming Event
Wednesday, October 2, 2019 - 7:00pm to 8:00pm

In his energetic, timely novel, Carr, the author of Sip as well as several novellas and prize-winning story collections, shows us Trump’s America from the point of view of a confused but charismatic seventeen-year-old. Recently orphaned, Riggle has been sent to rural Indiana to live with his uncle. His uncle is addicted to drugs, however, and when he goes missing just before rent is due, Riggle has to find him or come up with the $800 himself. During the week he spends searching, Riggle meets a wide variety of Opioid’s marginalized citizens; in an account by turns cynical, wise, and impulsive, Carr, a resident of Indiana, grapples with issues including race relations, mass shootings, disenfranchisement, and, of course, addiction.
