All 13-year-old pickpocket Leandro and his sister Gabi want is to eat and survive. Earth has been a barren wasteland for 400 years, humanity struggling to forage amongst the spirits and creatures of the forest. When Gabi steals from the elite, Leandro takes the fall, but his punishment is far worse than he thought. His consciousness is placed inside an ancient drone and left to survive on his own. Donna Barba Higuera is the author of many books, including the Newbery Medal and Pura Belpré medal winning The Last Cuentista as well as Lupe Wong Won’t Dance. She has also been awarded the Pura Belpré Honor and the PNBA Award. She writes books about folklore mixed with reality, things that will make you laugh but also creep you out! She currently lives in Washington State with her family, three dogs, and two frogs.

Amina Luqman-Dawson is the Newbery and Coretta Scott King award winning author of Freewater and the pictorial history book Images of America: African Americans of Petersburg. She has a BA in Political Science from Vassar College and a Master of Public Policy from UC Berkeley. Amina, her husband, and 14-year-old son, reside in Arlington, VA.
