Elaine Sciolino - The Seine: The River That Made Paris

Upcoming Event
Wednesday, November 6, 2019 - 7:00pm to 8:00pm

A resident of Paris since 2002, Sciolino, former Paris bureau chief for The New York Times, was first smitten by the place—and especially its central river—in 1978. Continuing the tour of her adopted city she started with La Seduction and The Only Street in Paris, her new book combines memoir, travelogue, and history to tell the story of the Seine. Following this great body of water from its source in Burgundy to where it meets the sea in Le Havre, Sciolino deftly captures the natural ambience, introduces those who live along its path, explores a champagne vineyard, joins the river police on patrol, and rows with an antique boat-restorer.
