Upcoming Event
Sunday, November 10, 2019 - 3:00pm to 4:00pm

Praised by Michelle Obama for proving that “the vision and perseverance of a single individual can turn the tides of history,” Dovey Johnson Roundtree (1914-2018) is one of the country’s great unsung heroes.  Born in North Carolina, she joined a select group of forty Black women commissioned as Army officers in World War II; later, she became a civil rights attorney—winning a landmark bus desegregation case in 1955—then in 1961 was among the first women ordained in the AME Church. During the last decade of her life, Roundtree worked with Katie McCabe, a Washington-based freelance writer, who helped her complete this inspiring memoir. McCabe will be in conversation with Liza Mundy, author most recently of Code Girls, and Sharon Patricia Holland, author of Raising the Dead and The Erotic Life of Racism.
