Paul Hendrickson - Plagued by Fire: The Dreams and Furies of Frank Lloyd Wright — with introductory remarks by Jonathan Segal

Upcoming Event
Tuesday, October 1, 2019 - 7:00pm to 8:00pm

Hendrickson won acclaim and a place as a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award with Hemingway’s Boat, his illuminating look at one of the giants of modernist literature. In his new book he offers an equally fresh portrayal of Frank Lloyd Wright. Drawing on previously underplayed biographical details, Hendrickson explores the lasting effects on Wright of the lies he told about his father; investigates his possibly romantic relationship with his friend and mentor Cecil Corwin; and traces the role of fire in Wright’s life, from the blaze that destroyed the living quarters of Taliesin in 1914 to the Tulsa race riots in 1921 and the Taliesin bungalow fire in 1925. Delving below the iconic architect’s brilliance and egotism, Hendrickson lays bare his complex emotional reality.

Introductory remarks will be provided by Jonathan Segal, Vice President and Senior Editor for Knopf publishing house.
