Peggy Wallace Kennedy - The Broken Road: George Wallace and a Daughter's Journey to Reconciliation — in conversation with Diane McWhorter
The daughter of George Wallace, who uttered the infamous “Segregation now. Segregation tomorrow. Segregation forever” in his 1963 inaugural address as governor of Alabama, Kennedy has devoted her life to racial reconciliation, earning the Southern Christian Leadership Conference Rosa Parks Legacy Award, the Emmett Till Legacy Foundation Woman of Courage Award, and many others. In her clear-eyed and insightful memoir, she delves into the origins of her father’s racism and gives an intimate look at events such as Wallace’s efforts to block desegregation at the University of Alabama, his 1972 run for president, the assassination attempt that left him a paraplegic, and his late-life recantation of his supremacist views. Kennedy will be in conversation with Diane McWhorter, author of the Pulitzer Prize-winning Carry Me Home.
