P&P Live! Meg Medina-Merci Suárez Can't Dance

Upcoming Event
Friday, April 23, 2021 - 2:00pm

7th grade brings new interests and challenges for Merci Suárez. At school she is trying to step out of her older brother’s shadow, take on new leadership roles, and figure out how to merengue her way out of the upcoming school dance. At home her beloved grandfather, Lolo, is slipping deeper into Alzheimer’s, and her aunt is preoccupied with a new love interest. On top of all that Merci is starting to feel the pangs of her own first crush.

Join Meg Medina for a further peek into the life of Merci and the rest of the Suárez family first introduced in the Newbery Medal winning, Merci Suárez Changes Gears. The heartwarming sequel, Merci Suárez Can’t Dance, reminds us that middle school can be the pits, but with a bit of humor and love you can survive.

Meg Medina is an award-winning Cuban-American author who writes picture books and middle-grade and YA fiction. Medina’s work examines how cultures intersect through the eyes of young people, and she brings audiences stories that speak to both what is unique in Latino culture and qualities that are universal. When she is not writing, Medina works on community projects that support girls, Latino youth and literacy. She lives with her family in Richmond, Virginia.
