The COVID-19 crisis has pulled the curtain back on America's looming retirement income crisis, a fraying of the national community, and ever-worsening income inequality. Never before have so many people's livelihoods and futures been thrown into flux. Now more than ever, expanding Social Security is essential to addressing these challenges. Social Security Works for Everyone , an evolution of the argument Nancy J. Altman and Eric R. Kingson made in their acclaimed first book,Social Security Works, presents the case for expanding Social Security, explaining why monthly benefits need to be increased; why Americans need national paid family leave, sick leave, and long term care protections; and how we can pay for it all. Don't believe the nearly four-decade, billionaire-funded campaign to convince us that the program is destined to collapse. It isn't.

Nancy J. Altman, a lawyer, is the author of The Battle for Social Security and a co-author, with Eric R. Kingson, of Social Security Works! and Social Security Works for Everyone! (both from The New Press). She co-founded Social Security Works in 2010 and lives in Bethesda, Maryland.

Eric R. Kingson is a professor of social work at Syracus University. He is a co-author, with Nancy J. Altman, of Social Security Works! and Social Security Works for Everyone! (both from The New Press). He co-founded Social Security Works in 2010 and lives in Manlius, New York.

Altman and Kingson will be in conversation with Richard Eskow, a freelance writer, a radio and TV commentator, and an advisor on social insurance and economic policy. He is the host and managing editor of The Zero Hour with RJ Eskow, a weekly radio and television program. Previously, Richard was the senior writer and editor for the Bernie Sanders presidential campaign. He has also been a consultant and advisor to governments and NGOs/private organizations on health and benefits financing and administration, in the US and over 20 other countries.
